Large antique bronze sculpture of Toba ,the taoist God of longevity .Depicted as a venerable sage with a high forehead and long beard,he wears a wide-brimmed scholar s hat and flowing robes decorated with original polychrome enamels.Mounted on his mule, a symbol of wisdom and the journey of life. ther wide-brimmed hat represents a variant iconography seen on high-quality Asian export bronzes made for Western markets circa 1890-1910.

Cast hollow bronze with rich brown patina.Robe and hat retain substancial original.Polychrome enamels in blue, green,red and white,with bronze cloisons in strong relief above the enamel fill.Typical of late qing/Meiji period export production.Underside fifted with its original brass belly plate.
