Red hanpo with tare, Edo period

This is a hanbo japanese half-cheek mask,from the Edo period 1603-1868.

This authentic hanpo samurai was made protecting the lower face and covers the mouth leaving eyes and nose exposed.

Fifted with 4 articulated iron lames tare forming the throat guard below. its laced in sugake with blue lacing odoshi.Two iron hooks on the sides for attachment to the kabuto helmet.

Exterior shows rich red urushi laquer,color symbol in Japan and with natural age wear and patina and the interior is black laquer .

Good condition for a rare red piece.
