Jizo Bosatsu , Edo period
Magnificent standing 地蔵 carved in hinoki wood using yosegi-zukuri technique, circa 1830 Edo Period.
The statue retains its original urushi black lacquer and kinpun gold dust on face and robes.Natural craquelure, smoke patina from temple candles/ incense, and age wear are fully visible, especially on the serene face with crystal urna. Height 58 cm, 62 cm with halo ring.
The original lotus in green malachite lacquer and gold dates to the same period, 20 cm diameter with natural surface wear.
Statue and pedestal original Edo period patina. Kohai mandorla, circular ring behind the head professionally relacquered in traditional urushi lacquer recently for structural stability. Sutra cavity empty interior stabilized only.
A Meiji period wooden shakujo staff, 39,5 cm height with 13 cm ring is included.
More than wood and laquer-this is 200 years of prayer,frozen in time.A face that still carries the quiet of the temple.
