Samurai armor by Myochin Monki Yasutsugu Edo period circa 1850 Sagara clan, Hotoyoshi domain,Higo province with 22000 koku . 鉄さびじ塗五枚戸当世具足
Authentic and complete Edo armor with original lacquer .With a toppai kabuto in tetusabiji lacquer finely made with 6 iron plates with rivets visibles, and with a shikoro made in iron then black lacquered. Iron plates 5-plates gomai-do iron cuirass with black lacquer and hemp cloth backing kuroasa-gake. Signed on the right Myochin Monki Yasutsugu saku. Armorer for the Sagara clan, of Hitoyoshi ,Higo Province.
This armor was published in the past in well-known Japanese seller' s catalog as Historical valuable piece.
This armor represents the equipment of a Sagara Hitoyoshi retainer during the final years of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
All the lacing are in good condition .Haidate fabric backing was partialy stabilized with laquer or varnish due to age-related wear to prevent later alteration.Sold as is, price accordingly.
2 maedate included the original in brass with gray patina and a wooden maedate with mantras and gilded.
A wooden Edo period box will be included.
The mei Monki Yasutsugu was certainly a domain-retained armorer of a secondary han.Typical of many armorer of the period who worked exclusively for their domain and are only recorded in local clan archives.
